DIY Inspiration | Jeweled Cap

This J. Crew cap proves that rhinestones and fabric glue can go a long way towards turning a classic baseball hat into a style statement. Much like the bedazzled sweatshirts that seem to be everywhere this season, this hat is the perfect combination of casual and glam.

DIY Throw Pillows

Well, I did it. I made the big move and am spending the evenings unpacking and settling into the new place. I've just begun to decorate, and in the meantime these DIY throw pillows offer a cheery pop of color to my otherwise neutral bedroom.

DIY Inspiration | Animal Print Accents

As sad as I always am when summer comes to a close, the end of summer and start of fall marks my time of year for dressing. Warm days and cool nights call for strategic layers, and there's something wonderful about pairing a sundress with ankle boots and a knit cardigan. 

As the change-of-season nears, I'm looking to the pre-fall collections for inspiration. Enter Burberry Prorsum. Christopher Bailey's collections are among my favorites every season, and his pre-fall 2013 collection was no exception. I was especially drawn to the gorgeous animal prints, proving that neutrals can be bold. The print and coloring reminded me of this clutch that I made last year. You can bet I'll be carrying the clutch quite a bit this fall.

DIY Cheese Board

Mother's Day is just around the corner (it's Sunday, May 12), and it's time to start thinking about a special treat for your mom. I recently stumbled across this lovely recipe on Pinterest and was inspired. By using different fonts and shapes, you can turn a special family recipe into a piece of art that will add charm to Mom's kitchen.

DIY Honey Bear Vase + Paper Rose

Last weekend, when feeling crafty and inspired by the impending spring weather, I finally tried my hand at two DIY projects that I've been dying to try.

Honey Bear Vase: I found this precious DIY tutorial on one of my favorite blogs months ago, and I finally drank enough tea to empty the honey bear for this project. The idea of gold leaf was a bit intimidating, and so I opted for gold spray paint instead. No matter your preference, there's something about this little golden bear vase that is both sweet and chic.

Paper Rose: Yet another fantastic Pinterest find was this epic DIY flower tutorial. The results are gorgeous, and, though the project was somewhat time consuming, it is not difficult to create beautiful paper flowers using the free printable template.

DIY Inspiration | Tasseled Sandals

I am typically drawn to classic heels, but there's something about the tassels on these otherwise simple Jimmy Choo sandals that has me wanting to DIY. A tasseled anklet would add a pop of color to neutral sandals or pumps and could be made using a little creativity and this DIY tassel tutorial.

DIY Crochet Collar

After months of eyeing gorgeous collars on the runways and Pinterest, I finally have my very own!  My mom put her crochet skills to create collars using this genius pattern from Lulu Loves. I love the texture that these collars add to an outfit when layered over a classic sweater or blouse.

7 Ways to Tie a Scarf

My lovely mother, fashionista that she is, is constantly playing with new ways to accessorize her outfits.  Because scarves are our favorite accessory of the season, Mom and I worked together to document 7 ways to tie a scarf.  Check it out!

works best with: long, rectangular scarf in a soft, drapey fabric

1. Drape the scarf around the back of your neck, with ends hanging evenly in front.

2. Loop one end of the scarf around your neck, bringing end back to front.  The end should hang about your chest.

3. Bring other end up towards opposite shoulder and tie end to other end.

works best with: long, rectangular scarf

1. Drape the scarf around the back of your neck, with ends hanging evenly in front.

2. Grab ends and tie corners of ends together.

3. Twist the scarf once in front of you so that it creates a number 8.

4. Bring the knotted end of the loop up over your head so that the scarf loops around your neck twice with no loose ends.

works best with: long, rectangular scarf

1. Drape the scarf around the front of your neck, with ends hanging evenly in back.

2. Bring ends around to front and tuck ends into loop at sides of neck.

works best with: mid-length silk scarf

1. Drape scarf around the front of your neck, with ends hanging evenly in back.

2. Bring ends around to front and knot at neck.

3. Slide the scarf around your neck so that the knot lays to one side.

works best with: long rectangular or oblong scarf

1. Drape scarf around the back of your neck, with ends hanging evenly in front.

2. Wrap a belt around your waist and over the ends of the scarf.

works best with: long, rectangular scarf in a soft, drapey fabric

1. Drape scarf around back of neck, with ends hanging in front.  One end should fall at shoulder length, with the other end hanging much lower.

2. Wrap the longer end around your neck until both ends fall at shoulder length.

3. Knot corner of one end to other end.

4. Slide the scarf around your neck so that the knot lays to one side.

5. Tuck the knot underneath the looped scarf so that just one corner of one end peeks out.

works best with: large square scarf in silk or other soft fabric

1. Fold one corner of scarf towards opposite corner, creating a triangle.

2. Fold long edge of triangle down about one or two inches.

3. Drape triangle across chest with ends hanging evenly in back.

4. Cross ends in back and bring around front, knotting under neck and across front of triangle.
