Homemade Doggie Biscuits

Hunter's 14th birthday was on Wednesday.  He is a puppy trapped in a old dog's body, and there are few things that he loves more than to stick his nose in a gift bag and come back out with a treat.  To celebrate his birthday, I baked gourmet doggie biscuits to spoil the little guy.  They're quite delicious!  (Yes, I tasted one.)

Here is the recipe, adapted from MacPherson's K-9 Cookbook:

1/4 c water
2 eggs
2 c flour
1 1/3 c sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1/2 c vegetable oil

In a small bowl, whisk water and eggs.  Set aside.

To the bowl of a food processor, add flour, cheese, garlic, and oil.  Pulsate 5 seconds.  Scrape sides of bowl.  Pulsate another 5 seconds.  Mixture should have the texture of coarse meal.

With the processor running, drizzle in egg mixture until dough forms a ball.

Divide dough into 2 balls.  Knead each dough ball on a floured surface.

Roll dough to 1/4 inch thickness.

Cut with dog biscuit cookie cutter and place on a baking sheet.

Bake for 12 minutes at 400 degrees.  Remove from oven and carefully turn each biscuit over.   Return to oven and continue baking for another 4 minutes.

Cool biscuits on a rack.

Of course, it's no fun if Hunter's human friends can't celebrate his birthday, too.  So I made sugar cookies and cut them with the dog biscuit cutters.

(Click here for the recipe.  Follow the same instructions, but roll the dough with a rolling pin and cut with cookie cutters instead of forming a log).
